Muhammadu BuhariGCFR (Hausa pronunciationⓘ; born 17 December 1942) is a Nigerian politician and retired Nigerian army major general who served as the president of Nigeria from 2015 to 2023.
He was the military head of state from 31 December 1983 to 27 August 1985, succeeding Shehu Shagari in the 1983 Nigerian coup d'état.
